Baby Shower Centerpiece Ideas

Even if you haven’t arranged flowers before, don’t give up on the idea of making your own centerpieces for the shower.  With these easy ideas, you will be finished with them in no time at all.  They really don’t take expert skill to make – just give yourself enough time to do a few practice runs, and you will be turning out perfect centerpieces in no time!

Monochromatic Flowers -- Tea Tins -- Plants -- Advice Buckets

Monochromatic Centerpieces

If you have chosen a monochromatic color theme for your shower, your centerpieces will be easy to create.

1) Find low glass vases – we prefer squares or rectangles
2) Choose your flowers all in the same shade as your theme – roses, lilies, carnations, or gerbera daisies are great choices
3) Cut your stems so the flowers will be 2 to 3 inches above the edge of the vase
4) Fill the vase halfway with water, gather your flowers in one hand, and let them fall where they may within your vase.

Tea Tin & Tea Cup Centerpieces

If you are doing a tea party for your baby shower, these are perfect, easy to make centerpieces that everyone will want to take home with them.

1) Buy tea in tins, purchasing enough tins to decorate your tables** – make sure you note which teas are which as you empty the tins–you’ll be serving the tea later!
2) Wash out the tins and let them air dry
3) Choose your flowers – since the tins are so colorful on their own, we recommend monochromatic flowers in lighter shades – whites, creams, pinks, or soft yellows.
4) Cut the stems so that the flowers will be 2 to 3 inches above the edge of the tea tin
5) Fill the tins halfway with water and let the flowers fall where they may from the opening.

** You can substitute tea cups for tea tins if this is more economical for you – you can pick up tea cups and saucers at your local second hand store.  Put florist’s foam (which can be purchased from stores like Michael’s) in the tea cup to hold the flowers in place.  This will require you to push each stem into the foam, so be sure to work in a circle to create an even arrangement!

Potted Plant Centerpieces

This is a super simple, quick way to dress up your table.  Plus it’s a lasting gift to one person at each table!

1) Check out the indoor plant selection at your local supermarket or home design center.  We prefer plants that are flowering, but if you like greens, then look for bushy, leafy plants.  You can easily find great selections for under $10 a piece.
2) Buy coordinating tissue paper that matches a color from your invitation or theme.
3) Fold the tissue into a square that is roughly twice the size of the pot.
4) Place a folded paper towel under the pot to prevent any moisture from leaking out from the pot, then place the paper towel-lined pot in the center of the square.
5) Gather up the tissue paper around the pot, and tie with a contrasting ribbon.

If you are having a shower that includes an animal in the theme (rubber ducky, bedtime story, little lamb, etc) consider finding inexpensive stuffed animals to arrange around the bottom of the potted plant on each table – a circle of swimming rubber ducks around the bottom of a flowering plant makes a great shower centerpiece.

Mommy Advice Centerpieces

This one will allow you to be as creative as you can be while also taking advantage of the years of advice from the other women at the shower.

1) Find small, galvanized metal buckets for each table.
2) Tie fabric ribbon that matches your theme around each bucket.
3) Place some crinkled, white tissue paper in the bottom of each one to bring the level up.
4) Make or buy “Advice Cards” for each guest to fill out during the shower and place them in the bucket.
Once you’ve placed the buckets on the tables:
5) Put an equal number of fancy pens to the number of seats at each table, arranging around the perimeter of the bucket.
6) Scatter some flower petals as well as tea lights around the base of each bucket.
